Samsung SyncMaster T260

3D TV - How Does 3D Work?

Your brain creates a sense of depth in real life that gives depth perception and hence a 'real life image'. 3D Movies and TV images are created and can be used with 3D Glasses to fool the brain into thinking it's seeing a 'real life image'.

3D movies and TV broadcasts project a left and right image simultaneously onto the same screen, and then the glasses that you wear filter out the correct image to each eye, to create the sense of depth of a 'real life image'.

How is a 3D movie or TV Program filmed?

A 3D moving image begins by recording the way that our eyes see (from two different perspectives). Two HD cameras are used in a special camera apparatus to take left and right images of the chosen scene or subjects. What you then see is exactly what the camera operator views.

If the camera shots are set up with a 3D audience in mind, you can enable recording of the actual 'real life image' experience. If the camera operator is behind the goal of a football match or falling through the air with sky-divers in a movie, then the viewer at home or in the cinema can have almost the same experience.

Each image is then recorded sequentially (left and then right image) and can be broadcast live or saved for future broadcast.

How can I view 3D Moving Images?

There are two different 3D TV technologies.

1. Polarized screens, project both the left and right images onto the screen at the same time, and then a special filter on the glass polarizes the left and right images differently, such that your 3D glasses then use a different left and right lens to filter the correct image to each eye. Your brain then does the rest.

2. Active shutter glasses, switch between one eye and then the other in sync with the TV, which is alternating left and right images on the screen at a very high rate (50 frames per eye per second). This is fast enough that the brain sees no gaps, and again, takes the two different views from left and right eyes to merge them into an image with depth.

Are the glasses red and green/blue?

No. The red and green/blue glasses also known as anaglyph were used for 80's 3D movies. Although the principles are the same, Digital 3D delivers a far superior experience. Anaglyph images suffer from a loss of colour, as the method for filtering out the left and right images strip out colours from the image. They lead to images that the brain finds too difficult to process which can cause headaches and eye strain.

Do I need a 3D Ready TV?

Yes. 3D ready TVs are already being marketed and will also be HD ready. Some of the main manufacturers are: LG, Panasonic, Sony and Philips.

Active v Passive 3D explained

Active v Passive 3D refers to the type of glasses you have to wear to watch 3D.

Active glasses contain LCD lenses that alternately 'black-out' each eye depending on whether the right or left image is being displayed on the screen. They are referred to as active because they require a battery to operate the LCD lenses. The shuttering occurs so rapidly that you don't see the shutters just the amazing 3D picture.

Passive glasses use polarisation to separate out the left and right image. They are referred to as passive because the glasses do not require any power to operate them. These work with polarised TVs that use circular polarisation to deliver the two images to the viewer. The TVs have a polarized filter integrated into the screen, and when switched into a 3D mode, the filter orientates the light emitting from screen differently for the left and right image. When you put on the passive polarised glasses the left lens has a filter that blocks out the right image and right lens has a filter that blocks out the left image.

One important point to consider is the cost of replacing broken or lost 3D glasses. Active glasses will cost more than polarised glasses due to the additional technology they use. Active glasses will also occasionally need a new lithium battery (similar to a watch battery) when it runs out.

Canon Powershot SD790IS Digital Camera Review

One of the best canon cameras out there right now is the Canon Powershot SD790IS digital camera. After reviewing several other models, this one came out on top.

You will be quickly impressed with the startup speed of the camera and the qualities of the pictures from the Canon Powershot SD790IS are superb. You can take approximately 150 shots and still have lots of battery power. This feature alone puts this one in a class of its own. The flash recharge speed is extremely fast when compared to other thin digital cameras.

Pictures taken on the "auto" mode come out looking perfect and the color always seems accurate. Faces are not washed out; pictures taken in bright sunlight, distance shots or close up, all come out as you want them to, great!

The Canon Powershot SD790IS digital camera turns on and is ready to use almost instantly, and focuses quickly. Pictures turn out sharp and clear, even with the flash, the zoom works easily with a very accessible button, and there is absolutely no red eye.

The camera is small enough to fit into your pocket and surprisingly light. But don't let the small package fool you as this is one digital camera packed full of features with high quality construction. The body is made from metal rather than plastic which gives it a better feel and makes it sturdier.

The 3.0" LCD screen of the Canon Powershot SD790IS digital camera is bright, and is clearly visible even in bright sun. There is no need for a viewfinder with this one. Another good thing about this camera; it is possible to view images on the camera's screen without extending the lens. When turned off, just hold down the play button to turn on image playback. The lens won't pop out.

This is a great digital camera, and probably the best out there right now in its price range and even better than some more expensive models.

If you plan on shooting a lot in auto mode and want a thin camera with the 3 inch screen, the Canon Powershot SD790IS is the way to go. Another unique feature is that the camera can sense which way you're holding it and shifts the image on the screen.

This review of the Canon Powershot SD790IS digital camera is geared more toward the casual user pointing out features that most people would be interested in rather than from a more technical point of view.

Whether you are looking for a camera to take pictures of your vacations, week-end trips or the kids as they are growing up, the Canon Powershot 790IS digital camera is one that I highly recommend.

The Best 50-Inch Plasma TV - 3 Top 50-Inch Plasma Televisions

Are you looking for the best 50-inch plasma TV? In this article we are going to show you the 3 top 50-inch plasma televisions.

No matter if you are a sports fan that needs to see the action on a bigger screen, if you are a gamer that really wants to get into the game or if you like to watch action movies, you will be able to easily enjoy your movies, sports and games when you have a bigger TV. Now let us talk about the 3 top plasma 50 inch televisions to see which one might be the best for you.

Number 1 - Panasonic Viera TC-P54S1 Plasma

This TV has received glowing reviews from all over. The ability to give fine shadow detail and no lagging are two of the consumer's favorite features. There was also no false contouring and mapping.

Number 2 - Samsung PN50B550

Another great option for your viewing pleasure is the Samsung PN50B550. You will be able to see true to life skin tone and vibrant colors coming across the screen. The only thing that I found to be a set back on this TV was that it was hard to see when you were watching dark content on the screen but had a very brightly lit room.

Number 3 - Panasonic Viera TC-P50G10

Last but not least comes in the Panasonic Viera TC-P50G10. This TV offers you that great 1080p HD that everyone is talking about. While black levels are strong and deep they are not the best seen on any TV. You can still achieve a great picture quality and experience with this Panasonic.

I am sure there are many other great plasma TVs out there on the market but these are just 3 of the top plasma TVs you can readily available for purchase.

LCD TV Comparisons - Deciding Between LCD and Plasma

If you're in the market for a new television and you've done any research at all, you're probably tired of all the technical TV jargon being thrown at you -- most of which means absolutely nothing to the average person. If you're like most people, you just want to know what will provide the best picture quality at the best price. Because of their popularity, you've undoubtedly heard of the LCD television and you may be wondering why so many people are choosing this technology over other options, such as plasma. Let me share with you a few things to keep in mind when making your LCD TV comparisons.

Just to give you a bit of background, the term LCD stands for "liquid crystal display." While plasma screens use plasma gas cells which are charged by an electrical voltage to create a picture, the liquid crystal display screens are made up of liquid crystals which are placed between two glass plates. Both of these technologies use a back light, but the liquid crystal displays are most generally lighter and thinner as they don't have the gas-filled chambers and heavy glass panels necessary for the plasma screens. Until recently, liquid crystal display TVs were more common in smaller size televisions, usually 27 inches or less, but times have changed and the liquid crystal display technology is now available in just about any size screen.

While both the LCD and plasma technologies can produce beautiful pictures, here are a few of the advantages of the liquid crystal display TV that you'll want to consider when making your LCD TV comparisons:

LCD televisions are usually lighter than their plasma counterparts, making them much easier to mount on the wall.

The price of LCD TV's have dropped as of recent, so when doing your LCD TV comparisons, keep in mind that you'll often pay less, sometimes much less, for an LCD screen than you will for a plasma screen of comparable size and features.

Data resolution is much better on the liquid crystal display. The number of pixels per square inch is typically higher than what you'll get with a plasma screen. Simply put, when the data resolution is higher, you'll receive razor sharp images and be able to see more detail in your picture.

Especially if you're a hardcore gamer and you play games as much or more than you watch TV, LCD is definitely the better choice, as plasma is more sensitive to the burn-in effect from static images.

The LCD TV has a higher brightness capability, making them easier to watch than plasma. This equates to sharper colors and a bold, bright picture quality.

Unlike some of the comparable plasma televisions, the LCD TV comes equipped with tuners inside the unit -- so it's a simple plug and play.

While plasma TV's usually boast a better viewing angle than LCD TV, as long as you stick with a high quality name brand, users report very little difference in the two technologies when it comes to off-angle viewing.

Most quality LCD TV's have an ultra-fast response time, which means reduced motion blur when viewing sports, video games, or action movies.

All things considered, when making their LCD TV comparisons, more and more people are choosing the liquid crystal display TV over the plasma or other options. If you decide to take the LCD route, you'll have many screen sizes, brands, features, et cetera, to pick from -- and this task can be rather daunting considering all the options available.

The two main things you'll want to consider when making your LCD TV comparison is your budget and the size of your room. From there, your selection will be narrowed somewhat. And consider purchasing your set online. The prices are usually more competitive and shipping is fast and usually very reasonable, sometimes even free.

Sony KDL - 37W5810 Review

The Sony Bravia KDL-37W5810 is the newest set from the most well know electronics company in the world. It uses the improved Bravia engine as an integral part of the TV.

To make the Sony KDL-37W5810 fit in any cabinet or on any table, Sony made the case super slim, and gave it a piano finish in black. Not only can it fit anywhere, it can be placed anywhere and fit into with any type of furnishings. The swivel base is a plus, allowing you to move the TV to any angle.

This TV comes ready to watch any HD program and has 1080i, the most sought after type on the market. Digital tuning is also standard on the Sony KDL-37W5810, as is a Freesat tuner, making the extra box and cable unnecessary since you have hundreds of HD channels and radio to choose from. The 4 HDMI jacks are ready to play any HD device, and the included remote will act universally with them.

The colour on the Sony KDL-37W5810 is well above any expectations. Live Colour gives the hues the added pop, making the hues true to life and vibrant. It can be adjusted, so you get the best colour based on your preferences, not a computer. The Advanced Contrast Enhancer also gives you true blacks, making the screen come alive with depth.

The new and improved Bravia Engine 3 makes the picture and audio on the TV crystal clear and the colour has brilliance to it. For fast paced scenes, the Image Blur technology can let you see all the actions as it happens with no fuzziness or skipping. When you watch movies, True Cinema can let you see it as you would at the theatre, and how it was meant to be seen, by showing the original 24 frames per second instead of the digitally altered version.

Sony is also leading the pack with their Eco Settings. When used, it can use up to 30% less energy, and pass these savings onto your bills. With the light sensor, the back light can be mechanically adjusted based on the available light, and the power setting mode can help to conserve energy.

You can also access the internet with the Sony KDL-37W5810 using the Applicast to tap into Sony's widgets. The DLNA network can let you hook up your PC or laptop. You can also add more videos, music and photos with the USB port and even customise the Picture Frame mode and make your screen saver special.

The sound on the Sony KDL-37W5810 is great considering the limitations imposed by the lack of depth. Using S-Force it mimics the way the ear hears and gives you true surround sound. You can use the Voice Volume so you never have to miss what they say or interrupt your movies by rewinding. The Steady Sound lets you watch your show; no more reaching for the remote when commercials come on.

The Sony KDL-37W5810 is one of the best TVs you can buy. Packed with many extras, this TV gives great sound and real colour.

Are You Looking For Affordable Televisions?

Face it, things just keep on getting more and more expensive, and with the way the economy is right now it's really hard to be able to buy your kids exactly what they want! I just bought a TV for myself and luckily I bought it for a cool $1000 plus free shipping and handling so it really wasn't that bad! One of the cool things about shopping online is if you look around a bit you can usually find really great prices. For example, I shopped online for my TV and got it for $1000 but when I looked in stores like Sears it was around $1800 for a used one and almost $2500 for a brand new one! Not only can you find really good prices online but it's incredibly convenient and the last thing you need right now is to be wasting gas on driving up to the mall when you could just as easily buy it online! Take the easy way out this Christmas! No lines, no waiting, no snow. Quick, easy and painless! Check out the following TVs!

Sony Bravia XBR KDL-55XBR8 55-Inch 1080p 120Hz Triluminos LED LCD HDTV -
The XBR 8-Series is pinnacle of Sony's expertise in HDTV technology. The TRILUMINOS three-color LED backlight combined with ACE PRO technology and Sony's best fully digital video processor BRAVIA Engine 2 PRO produces breathtaking picture quality that simply cannot be described in words. I have actually seen these particular TVs at BestBuy and the picture quality is absolutely stunning. If you can actually watch this TV and not drool a little bit then you seriously have something wrong with you! I watched a few minutes of one of the football games on it and it's just so realistic it's sick! So, even if this thing was $5k I would still buy it!

It really is amazing how far TVs have come. When my mom was younger they couldn't even get more than 3 channels and now we have state of the art TVs with LCD panels and HDTV technology. At this point, if I didn't have a big screen TV I don't know what I would do. The TV I bought was actually a Samsung and it really is one of the better brands of TVs as far as price, quality and functionality. Also, if you are really into video games you will absolutely adore these TVs! Its like the real thing, add some surround sound and you are really good to go! These newer TVs also have the HDMI jacks and all of the other jacks located (usually) on the side of the TV so its discreet but reachable. The HDMI jack allows you to hook your laptop right up to the TV so if you have the PC to TV option or you find something online that you want to watch on your big screen you can!

Panasonic DMP-BDT350 Blu-Ray Player Review

The new DMP-BDT350 Blu-ray Player from Panasonic is a unique player. Not just because it is one of only a few that can playback Full HD 3D Blu-ray Discs, but it has 2 HDMI Outputs. It has other great features like access to VieraCast, Wi-Fi- Ready, a 14 second boot up time and support for DLNA.

The DMP-BDT350, similar to other Panasonic Players, has a slim design. And like other Panasonic Blu-ray Players, they have put an emphasis on lowering power consumption. The player comes with a Power Save Mode where it will shut itself on/off depending on the TV status. Further helping to provide a low power consumption is the UniPhier® single chip LSI. Which can put a whole video signal processing circuit onto one chip. This decreases the amount of parts required and makes for a compact design. Panasonic has even reduced the depth of its players by 18%. By doing this it has resulted in a 15% reduction in the carton's volume.

Video Quality: The DMP-BDT350 can produce 1080/24p video output. It recreates cinema pictures from the Blu-ray Discs or DVD in their original 24p form, without any requirement for conversion. Proving cinema images in the exactly same format used in the film industry. The TV must be a 1080/24p compatible. It can up-convert content that is 480i/p or 720p to High Definition 1080p. The video connections for the DMP-BDT350 are the two HDMI outputs and Component Video Outputs, all of which are located on the back of the player.

The DMP-BDT350 includes PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus. This high quality image processing technology processes each pixel produced by the Blu-ray Disc video signal in the vertical direction. Keeping film colors original, clear and crisp. It reproduces colors with twice the accuracy of normal systems.

Audio Quality: Beside the HDMI Outputs, there are Digital Optical outputs and Analog AV Multi Outputs. It has internal audio decoding for Linear PCM, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, and DTS. Along with High Resolution Audio the DMP-BDT350 has 96kHz surround re-master. This is a function which improves the sound quality of CDs and other audio sources. It also helps the quality of the multi-channel sound found on Blu-ray and DVD discs.

The big feature of the DMP-BDT350 is its Full HD 3D playback capability. To watch 3D Blu-ray discs you do need to connect the player up to a 3DTV and use 3D glasses. A pair of glasses is needed for every person. Usually a set of glasses will be included along with the 3DTV. Other pairs will have to be purchased separately. It is recommended that the glasses you purchase be of the same manufacture as the 3DTV. The Panasonic DMP-BDT350, however, can be connected to any manufacturer's 3DTV.

As stated before, the DMP-BDT350 has dual HDMI Outputs. It has the 1.3 version HDMI(MAIN) as well as the newer version 1.4 HDMI(SUB). The reasoning behind these dual Outputs is to allow the DMP-BDT350 to easily integrate with older/existing AV receivers that do not have the new 1.4 HDMI. The MAIN or 1.4 HDMI will be for 3D video and be attached to your 3DTV. The SUB or 1.3 HDMI will be for HD Audio and be connected to your existing 1.3 receiver. Obviously this setup is designed to make 3D viewing easier and integrate it with your existing equipment. The DMP-BDT plays regular 2D Blu-ray disc and would require the regular video setup with just one HDMI connection.

Online Streaming Media Services are available through Panasoinc's VieraCast. Here you can access services such as Amazon Video on Demand, YouTube, Picasa Web Album, Bloomberg and a Weather Channel. The recent additions of Netflix, Pandora, Twitter and Fox Sports to VIERA CAST has greatly increased its worth. It now provides you with top notch movie, music, sports and information sites. You can also take advantage of BD-Live downloadable content on Blu-ray Disc as well as the Bonus view feature. Connection to the internet can be by the Ethernet Port or you can connect a Wireless LAN Adapter to the USB port.

USB Port, along with the SD Card Slot is another way you can enjoy movies or music. Located in the front you can play files like JPEG photos, MP3s, and DivX High Definition videos. Panasonic is stating the DMP-BDT350 has a 14 boot up speed. Allowing you to start enjoying your 3D Blu-ray Player right away.

THE PROS: The Panasonic DMP-BDT350 Blu-ray Player has Full HD 3D capability. It has Viera Cast and BD-Live. 7.1ch audio decoders for Dolby True HD, DTS HD. An SD Card Slot for AVCH HD video, a USB Port and two HDMI Outputs. It is also Wi-Fi 'Ready'.

THE CONS: Still not sure if it will have any internal memory or if a USB wireless adapter will be included or if you have to purchased separately.

THE FINAL WORD: The Panasonic DMP-BDT350 comes with a wide range of great features, including Full HD 3D technology. It has Online Streaming Media Services like Netflix, Amazon Video on Demand, YouTube, Picasa Web Album, Bloomberg, Weather Channel, Pandora, Twitter and Fox Sports. It is Wi-Fi 'Ready' and has two HDMI Outputs (versions 1.3 and 1.4) The DMP-BDT350 is sizing up to be a contender for best the Blu-ray Player coming out in 2010. -- Price you should look for when purchasing -- Under $425.00

The Plasma TV Wall Mount - Displaying Your Television and Saving Space

A plasma TV wall mount is used to hang a plasma TV on a wall for a more enjoyable viewing experience. A plasma television mount comes in a kit that requires assembly and installation.

There are three types of television mount. The first is the simplest to install and the least costly. The first type of mount is called "low profile". The low profile television mount is stationary; it does not provide tilting or pivoting abilities. The second kind of TV wall mount that is available is the tilting mount type.

This second type allows the plasma TV to tilt up and down. The final and most expensive model is the full motion mount; this model allows the TV to pivot from side to side and to tilt up and down. This last option is the most difficult to install and the most expensive to purchase.

Installing plasma TV wall mount usually takes around an hour or so and requires at least two people to accomplish. Securing the plasma TV wall mount is one of the most important steps in the process. Making sure that there is a wall stud where the TV mount is to be mounted is extremely important.

Plasma televisions are very heavy and the screens are glass so it is important that the TV mount is secured right into a wall stud. After locating the site where the mount will be installed than with the use of a stud finder the installation can begin. The second person is present to help lift the TV onto it. Installation of it can be contracted to an installer if time or ability is a concern.

A TV mount system can be purchased anywhere home electronics are sold. They can also be purchased at a lot of warehouse discount stores. The price differs depending on the model of the plasma TV wall mount. Comparison shopping will result in the best practice for purchasing a mount. Checking websites for user reviews will help in deciding which the best mount system is.

Choosing the Best LCD Television

Two of the most vital factors in choosing the most suitable Liquid Crystal Display television are size and cost. Buying an LCD TV could be intricate at times, but while you go over different sizes and brands, you will want to get a TV with a size that suits your actual house arrangement. However, if you want to do several alterations, you better get the television sooner so that you could manage those changes.

Primarily, look at the location where you would want your TV to be. Knowing the approximate space measurement would help you know what LCD television suits your house. It's also better to consider the arrangement of your other furniture's and seating positions. This way, you'll have painless viewing hours. 10 feet away from your TV will give you a better view. However, it still depends on the size of the screen, bigger sizes should be placed farther. Another factor is the viewing angles. Angles propose the areas where the LCD TV could be seen even from the sides before quality disintegrates. The anti-glare properties of LCD's must also be considered in choosing a TV. Anti-glare would work out the trouble with external light reflection. Regardless of the model you pick, light could still infiltrate which develop glaring.

In choosing an LCD television, HDTV conflict may arise, if you want a High Definition TV, you have to search for a model with the HDTV technology, and you should also be ready to pay more for this. Remember, you need to get quality for your money.

Panasonic TC-P50S1 Review

In the past few years, Plasma TV's have made a lot of progress in catching up with LCD televisions. Indeed, many Plasma TV's can now prevent and treat screen burn-in, which is considered one of the biggest problems with Plasma TV's. Some have even found ways to consume much less energy than usual, just like the Panasonic TC-P50S1, which also comes with some great features.

Picture Quality

The Panasonic TC-P50S1 delivers excellent picture quality, making it at par with many high-end models. The black levels are especially worth mentioning, since they are the deepest that Panasonic has been able to produce so far. The shadow detail is also impeccable and the colors are saturated and vibrant, seemingly bursting all over the screen, which is why they are still great in spite of the less than accurate color temperature - a common problem with Panasonic panels.

Even moving images appear crisp and clear on the screen of the TC-P50S1 - a feat achieved by the combination of its 600Hz sub-field drive and its Full-Time 1080 TV Lines Moving Picture Resolution. This means that the TC-P50S1 shows all 1080 lines even during fast-moving scenes, compared to some HDTVs which temporarily reduce the number of lines to keep up with the pace.

Design

The TC-P50S1 has a simple and elegant design similar to other models, sporting logos, buttons and an indicator light that blend in nicely with its glossy black frame, which also comes with gently rounded edges and a thin silver strip at the bottom. It also has a glossy black stand. What sets the TC-P50S1 apart, though, are its hidden speakers, which add style and appeal.

Remote

The remote control of the TC-P50S1 is neither infrared nor equipped with a backlight, which makes it not as good as many TV remote controls. Still, it has soft buttons which come in different colors, sizes and shapes, making them easy to find and use even in the dark.

Connectivity

The Panasonic TC-P50S1 has three HDMI inputs for you to plug in your Blu-Ray player, DVD player and your game console. It also has two component-video inputs, two AV inputs, an RF input and a digital audio output. It even has an SD card slot. It does not have a VGA input, though, which means you cannot plug in your computer unless it is HDMI capable, nor does it have a USB slot.

Power Efficiency

As mentioned earlier, the TC-P50S1 does not consume as much electricity as most Plasma TVs, which consume around two times the electricity used up by LCD televisions. This is because it has an innovative plasma display panel and a default picture setting that is slightly dimmer than others. Because of this, the Panasonic TC-P50S1 earned an Energy Star 3.0.

Other Features

Another great thing about the Panasonic TC-P50S1 is the Viera Link. With this feature, you can turn on all your HDMI-capable devices with the push of a button which saves you the time and inconvenience of switching each one on individually. It also has features to prevent and treat screen burn-in, such as the pixel orbiter and the scrolling bar function. In this way, it is similar enough to several high-end models but its price isn't, which makes it a good HDTV to look out for when you go shopping for your own.

Sony XBR-52LX900 52" 3D-ready BRAVIA 1080p LED LCD Full HDTV

Sony XBR-52LX900 52" 3D-ready BRAVIA 1080p LED LCD Full HDTV Review

I first want to say that I based much of my decision to buy the XBR-52LX900 on my past experience with Sony HDTV's and the research I did on the internet (especially from the tests done by [...]). I've paced the big electronic stores and compared many brands and technologies firsthand in the past 5 years and try to make the best decisions I can for what's right for me. Do all the research you can before you buy any TV and try to see TV's in person before you make any decision.
I've had my LX900 now for 4 days and I can say that it is a mammoth of technology. With so many features, you can get lost and even side tracked with all the settings and features you can meddle with. I can't count how much personal time I've personally lost to this glowing marvel. I got my LX900 to replace my XBR4, which I thought was pretty good at the time when I purchased it 3 years ago and should be better than my XBR9 that I bought earlier this year. First impressions were the size and design. It's huge, but very thin and quite an elegant, angled creature. I had contemplated the HX909 with the full LED and even the 8000 series Samsung, but decided to go with the LX900 since it's slimmer and comes with the 3D glasses as well as a built-in 3D emitter and WiFi. The HX909 does have a slightly better picture since it achieves deeper blacks due to full LED lighting, but the LX900 touches off an explosion of LEDs's to achieve a brighter picture, so I think the LX900 is just a step behind the HX909 visually in terms of contrast ratio. Right out of the box I wasn't that satisfied with the picture and kept playing with the settings (especially the motion flow). I finally went to [...] and used their "calibrated" settings which really optimized the picture and cleared it up significantly. You really have to come to terms with the fact that source video is everything when it comes to the picture on HDTV's no matter what settings you choose. The colors on the LX900 are really good and it nearly blinds you with the whites that it can display. However, the screen does glow too much in the deepest blacks with splotches of light on the sides of the screen due to it being an edge-lit LED screen and not full LED with localized dimming which lets a tiny bit of light bleed through. However, my blu-ray 1080P source from the PS3 looks impeccable on this behemoth! HD cable channels are pretty sharp, but anything below that is a bit too cluttered. Sadly, I do get excessive judder on fast motion and I'm trying to hold off on tweaking the motion flow since it seemed to degrade the brightness of the screen and have an overall negative impact on the image (something that an elite HDTV shouldn't be doing). There's a "theater mode" on the remote that can benefit the picture of some video sources more than others when you engage it. Some of the signals would get very washed out and grainy, the theater mode helped settle the picture back into a nice soft texture and clear the image up in many cases. Then there's that little 3D button at the top of the remote. Here's where things really heated up! You power up the glasses with a single button, hit the "3D" button on the remote, and poof, any image on the screen is converted to 3D! My first experience was "humph", but that was until I found the 3D settings. The TV default to a "medium" setting in the 3D effect. When I punched it up to high and set the glasses to auto darkness, you really got the feeling that you were looking through a window to the world (something much like looking through an old viewmaster). I unconverted some football, racing, tennis, and golf - which is pretty neat. When I put in "Planet Earth" or any Blu-Ray 1080P source, it really got deep, clear, and started popping out inside the TV! I figured only 3D on a Blu-ray could perform a decent 3D effect, but the LX900 proved me wrong! Since then, I've been re-watching all of my Blu-ray media again in 3D - it really is completely different in 3D. The 3D is really good on the LX900, but I know that it wouldn't look that great without the crisp details and color that it serves up even before you convert it to 3D. I was truly floored when it converted my personal photos into 3D from my PS3! I can't wait to get the update to my PS3 to play 3D Blu-ray in September. The remote really is a stand out also. I know that sounds ridiculous, I thought the same thing reading other reviews that went on about the remote. I fully understood what they were talking about when I actually got to play with this thing first hand. There's no battery door to break or lose when you pop it off. Instead, the whole bottom of the remote is a sliding sleeve that moves forward to expose the battery compartment (pretty slick). You can engage widgets and the streaming video over the internet with the press of dedicated buttons (there are plenty of buttons dedicated to one function) as well as navigate the xcross media bar and pull up any settings. The streaming video channels like YouTube and How To TV are pretty neat, but most of the videos are really all sub-par standard definition which looks badly muddled as you could expect. Amazon HD video and Netflix look very good and I have had no buffering problems at all with my WiFi streaming that content. What I can't understand is why there are so many movie services that do pretty much the same thing as the other. Netflix or Amazon should be all you need for movie service. Same with Slacker radio and Pandora, they do pretty much the same thing, no? The widgets are okay, but they really function way too slow and have a clunky feel to them. There's not a lot of variety except for the typical Yahoo and Facebook widgets and I can't stress here how long they take to load. My computer pulls these up quicker and they function much better with a computer and a keyboard. I hope the future holds the integration of app support like the apple store and the android marketplace - are you listening Sony? I am very dismayed by the built-in speakers on this TV, they really sound "tinny" and cheap. I have played with the sound settings trying to get something decent out of them, but for now I have had no success in improving this at all. The i-manual doesn't really give me any help on this either, but I hope to be able to correct this in the future. Since I have it hooked up to my theater system (which sounds outstanding), this is not a problem yet. That's another thing that I don't like about the LX900. It comes with no physical manual. You have to press the button on the remote that's dedicated for the "i-manual" so that it can pull it up off the net. Navigating the manual is again slow and clumsy. They could have used one branch of tree pulp to manufacture and include a printed manual which would be a big improvement over the i-manual.
So, was this TV worth the price that Sony wants for it? I'd say no. This is why I only gave 4 stars for it. It's pretty nice to have built in WiFi, 3D emitter, and include 2 pairs of glasses, but for the price it should be a full LED design and really "wow" you with a flawless picture. Then again, the slim monolithic design of the LX900 is the trade-off where you have to make the call. It's a decision between full LED and edge-lit LED or thicker versus thinner. Since my picture is still one of the best looking pictures I've seen (along with the eye popping 3D effects), I am pretty happy with my monster. The widgets and streaming media really weren't very impressive. I would have to say that it's a toss-up between the LX900 and the HX909 (might have got the HX909 if they threw in their 3D package and a WiFi dongle), but since the LX900 is supposed to be their flagship model I chose the LX900. You might even consider the Samsung 8000 series, since they're cheaper. But, I've found that there's something about the Sony (must be the processor) that makes them just a hint more clear to me when they're side by side with the Samsungs and an identical 1080P source. At any rate, I'd let prices settle at least 0 dollars less before buying one a Sony or wait for the next generation in a year or so.

Sony KDL-20S3000 - 20" Widescreen Bravia HD Ready LCD TV - Review

This is another great product from Sony and I'm very pleased with this one. The TV is ideal for a kitchen or bedroom (I have mine in the kitchen). When I buy a product I like to do lots a research and narrow down the possible products. Out of the HD TVs I had narrowed down a list of Phillips, Samsung and LG - all round the 20" size. I like to go down to a shop to view and listen to the TVs first before buying, and to me - the Sony looked and sounded the best.

I found that the Samsung was the smallest of my list of possible TVs and also looks very pretty, however as I found with the LG - the sound quality was poor with no decent bass. With the Phillips - I wasn't too impressed with the picture, so while I had to reach a little deeper in my pocket I decided to go for the Sony in the end as the sound and picture seemed much better than the rest - it really does look brilliant! This is a big purchase for me but I like to get something that I'm completely happy with so I'm glad I spent the little extra.

The picture quality is pretty awesome, but going from an old CRT style TV I'm going to notice the difference! The sound is even better than my old TV which I thought wouldn't be the case - so a pleasent suprise there.

If you are going to put the TV in a confined space, have a look on the manufacturers website and check the measurements. Be careful as sometimes they list two dimensions, one with a stand and one without.

I searched high and low on the net for the best price and at the time of writing Amazon is the cheapest. Delivery was great, I placed my order on Tuesday and the set arrived on Thursday at 9am, free delivery as well!
